Although the library does not publish every publication, there are some publications available in print. If you would like to read a particular newspaper in print, you can try searching for it using the library’s search engine. It also has links to local news publications.
Among the terms in the field, “breaking news” can refer to events that happened as recently as August 2017. For example, a breaking news story about the North Korean nuclear crisis in 2017-18 is considered breaking news. This term is becoming redundant as the 24-hour news channels use it to fill air time. Nevertheless, it is used to describe any story of wide interest to the public, and is often used after the news organization has reported on it.
Once the coverage has concluded, local television stations may be given an opportunity to break away from the network feed and begin their evening newscasts. They may receive a cue from the network talent and pause for a few seconds to re-come into coverage. After the reset, the opening graphic may be rolled again. Then, the network may switch back to its newscast, and a local station will likely join on a “preempted” edition.
