Current News is a program that focuses on breaking news stories, revolving around the latest events of the day. It is usually anchored by a journalist with expertise in the subject area or by a reporter who is covering the story live.

In addition to breaking news, Current News also provides information about the latest discoveries in science, health and technology. This is done by bringing together stories from leading universities, scientific journals and research organizations.
Generally, the format of a breaking news report begins with an opening graphic (sometimes a music score), accompanied by a voiceover. It is followed by a news anchor who introduces the breaking news.
The anchor will usually make a point of reminding viewers that they should continue to watch their local newscasts for additional details or a full wrap-up on the network’s overnight news program if applicable, while also directing them to other platforms (including television and streaming news channels) to stay updated on the story. The outro of the program may be a promo for further information or it may feature a short vignette describing the story and its significance.
The term “breaking news” is often used interchangeably with the phrase “special report” or “special coverage” (although it is typically the latter that is utilized for more significant stories). Historically, news organizations have considered breaking news to be a story that has a high impact and importance to the audience.
