Trending is an online news website featuring breaking stories about world events. It covers a variety of topics, including politics, sports, science, and the environment, among others. The site also has a children’s section and is available in multiple languages.
Breaking news
A breaking news story is a special report that interrupts regular programming to cover an event in its unfolding details. This term is often used to describe reports on the most important issue of the day, although it may also refer to a news item that has not yet been reported on (for example, the Sago Mine disaster).
On television, breaking news usually begins with an opening graphic and music that emphasizes the importance of the story being covered. The story then comes to the attention of the audience, and is introduced by a news anchor, mentioning the specific event and explaining how they can find more information.
Local stations typically join in on the coverage, if there is time for them to do so. Occasionally, a local station will take over the network’s coverage, or else will simply announce that there is a story that has just broken and will follow it with an update after they have had their own reporter at the scene of the news event.
Depending on the severity of the event and time constraints, the story may be covered for only a few minutes or continue for hours or days at a time. This can be done by in-studio coverage or by reporting to a location where the event is occurring, such as via a satellite or telephone connection.
