Broadcast and cable TV have both been a pillar of the American news industry for decades. But streaming has come along to shake things up.
Streaming allows viewers to customize their experience and view content at their convenience. With streaming, news and documentaries are not limited to one device or time period. This means that content can travel wherever a viewer goes, reducing the scarcity of media options.
In addition, streaming reduces the cost of building a library of content. It also eliminates the need for costly negotiations with cable companies.
Streaming has proven to attract a variety of niche audiences. One example is the news app NewsBreak, which offers local and trending news. A second is SciTechDaily, which offers a variety of science content. These are only a few of the many streaming services available to the consumer.
Streaming news has a large audience in the United States. According to a recent survey, 85 percent of households subscribe to at least one streaming service.
Streaming news has surpassed linear broadcast and cable in terms of viewership. As a result, major news networks are investing hundreds of millions of dollars in their streaming operations. They are hoping that a wide array of streaming offerings will help them reach a mass audience.
In the meantime, Fox has entered the news streaming business with its Fox Nation app. The app has attracted over 1.5 million subscribers.
CNN has been criticized for not being as competitive as its rivals. Although cable and broadcast news are both gaining traction in the streaming space, CNN opted to repurpose some of its own programming for its new offering.
