Trending is a segment of Current News that talks about what’s popular right now. This often includes current events, celebrity gossip or anything else that’s trending on social media. This segment is usually followed by the Trending Now chart, which shows what’s currently being viewed on social media. Breaking news is a news event that is so important that it requires an immediate interruption in non-news programming (or, in the case of a national network, in a regularly scheduled network newscast). This is typically followed by a countdown sequence on the screen to allow affiliates to switch over to the breaking news feed.
