The most common way to get current news is to watch TV. But there’s also news broadcast on Facebook and magazines and digital magazines.
Historically, broadcast news has been a profitable business. However, the number of choices for viewers has increased, encouraging voters to sink into political silos. Online video streaming is likely to reshape coverage of politics.
CBS News has announced that they will beam 45,000 hours of local news to streamers in 2022. That’s a dramatic increase in local coverage from the tens of thousands that they already provide. It’s an aggressive strategy by the CBS network.
Streaming news is like cable TV, but it allows for customization. Users can block topics, express emotions, and follow trending news. These features help make streaming news more appealing to a variety of audiences.
Streaming news also has the added advantage of being more cost effective for producers. The major news networks have invested hundreds of millions of dollars into streaming operations. Their hopes are high for it. Streaming has allowed them to archive content, and they can repurpose that content to meet viewers’ needs.
Unlike conventional TV, streaming allows viewers to watch from anywhere. And because it’s not tied to a specific set of TV licenses, there’s no need to negotiate costly deals with cable companies. This also makes the building of news libraries more cost effective.
Among the most popular news apps are NewsBreak and Readly. They offer local and national news, and users can share their opinions. Several of these services also provide subscriptions.
