About Current News
Trending is a term used to describe breaking news stories or events that are currently popular, and that may be expected to continue to be so in the near future. These are often reported on by mainstream media outlets, but can also be seen in specialized news programs, such as those focused on current affairs, sports, or politics. When a story is deemed to be breaking, the broadcaster will usually interrupt regular non-news programming, and will typically instruct its network affiliates to stand by while a countdown to the national feed is conducted. The resulting break in programming is commonly known as a “Newsflash”, or special report.
