What is current news? It is news that has been published within the past year. Its contents are categorized by category, with bolded column headings indicating which news items are the most current. There are also some publications available in print form that can be found at the Bentley Library. To see these publications, you may perform a search for them. This section includes the latest news, sports, and business stories. You can also view the latest breaking news articles and videos.
Breaking News: When a story breaks, the anchor usually introduces it with the words “breaking news.” This ending is a variation of the traditional one, but it is an important distinction to make in the current news market. Some networks emphasize being the first to break a story. A national network newscast will pause for other affiliates to join its feed. A breaking news graphic will have music, as the news is urgent. The anchor may also alter the lower thirds to convey a sense of urgency.
Breaking News – A major breaking event can disrupt prime-time television. The network may decide to air the news broadcast during primetime, interrupting a highly-rated program, or a new series with plenty of time to air. A recent example is the ABC television network’s broadcast of the Shayrat missile strike, which interrupted an episode of Scandal. During such a time frame, the network may want to create special topical graphics to highlight the breaking story.
