When cable TV came onto the scene, its biggest innovation was the ability to provide viewers with timely, relevant news on the go. Previously, television news was a linear experience that left viewers waiting around for the news wheel to turn. But with DVRs and web accessibility, viewers could access news when it was convenient for them.

Streaming news has come a long way since its debut. It’s now possible to watch live streams and reruns on your computer, phone, or smart television. This allows for more timely delivery of news, and less of a scarcity problem.

In addition, streaming gives viewers more choice in the news they receive. For example, viewers can choose to receive a daily news report, or choose to follow a specific topic or trend. Streaming also helps reduce the cost of building a news library.

While many people have criticized cable’s approach to news, it has actually proven profitable for broadcasters. CNN, Fox, and MSNBC earned a combined profit of $3 billion in 2020.

Streaming news also has the advantage of attracting viewers of all ages and interests. It’s a good bet that online video streaming will continue to expand in the coming years, which is likely to change how political news is covered.

Although it may be difficult for news organizations to predict which channels will thrive in this new landscape, some of the most promising prospects are already well underway. Fox Nation, for instance, has already attracted 1.5 million subscribers.
