Trending is a short, trending topic segment that appears on the left side of Current News’ home page. It is used to highlight stories that are gaining popularity on the site. Trending is often determined by the number of clicks an article receives. A similar feature, called Trending in the News, is also available within Facebook’s News Feed. This feature is often used to highlight breaking news events or upcoming major events. Breaking news is a term referring to a news event that requires the interruption of regular non-news programming, such as a television or radio broadcast, or the pause of a live network newscast (often followed by a countdown sequence to allow affiliates to switch to the network’s feed).
