Trending is a weekly segment that talks about some of the most talked-about stories on Current News.
The segment also looks at what’s new and different in the world of media.
Breaking news is a television or radio broadcast that requires the immediate interruption of normal non-news programming (or, in some cases, regularly scheduled newscasts). This type of coverage usually includes a graphic, a countdown sequence and a distinctive music cue. If the event is serious enough, the network may interrupt regular commercial advertising, or even suspend the entire program for sustained coverage. In the days before 24-hour news networks, breaking news was often restricted to events of a national significance, such as the assassination of John F. Kennedy, which necessitated nationwide coverage requiring many stations to interrupt their normal programming. Currently, most major news networks use “Newsflash” or “Special report” tickers to identify the breaking news story during regular programming.
