Trending is a section of Current News that talks about stories that are currently popular with our viewers. This can be determined by the number of views or shares they receive, as well as the number of clicks on the article.

When a breaking news event occurs that requires an interruption in non-news programming or the network’s regular, ongoing newscast (or both), a special “Newsflash” or “Special Report” will usually appear on the screen. This often comes with a countdown sequence to give station affiliates time to switch over. Often, lower thirds or other graphics will also be altered to show that an alert is in progress.

Breaking news may be accompanied by a special audio feed, with or without a live reporter on the scene. This is more common on 24-hour news channels, such as NBC’s “Special Report” or CBS’s “Nightly News.”

Sarah Michelle Gellar is a chameleon — and she embodies her newest character’s chameleonic persona in the new movie “Ready or Not 2: Here I Come.” Plus, more heartwarming news.
