Trending is a topic that is currently popular and talks about the most searched for information on Google. It also includes news stories that are being talked about the most on social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter.
When a breaking news event occurs that warrants an interruption of current non-news programming, or, in the case of network newscasts, a pause of the network feed for affiliate stations to join the breaking news feed, a countdown graphic is displayed and station identification is overlaid by the local newscast’s anchor. The breaking news is then reported and analysis is inserted by in-studio analysts, or through remote interviews (sometimes called a “live shot”). Breaking news coverage may last for a few minutes or may continue for hours or even days.
