What’s Trending
Breaking news (also known as breaking newsflash or special report) is a segment on a television or radio news program that breaks an immediate, urgent story. This type of news reporting is usually interruptive to current non-news programming, and may occupy one or multiple segments during a single broadcast. Before the advent of 24-hour news channels, such programming interruptions were usually reserved for national events that elicited nationwide coverage and required numerous stations to break into regular scheduled newscasts. Breaking news stories are typically identified through a countdown sequence and a special opening graphic. This may also be accompanied by a distinctive music cue and lower thirds.
