The SIUE community kicked off their 2022 Homecoming festivities this month, but the university didn’t stop there. In the words of Chancellor James T. Minor, SIUE will “re-open for business” January 3rd. To celebrate, the university has launched an in-person event and an online event.

Of course, the university has been celebrating for years, and this year’s Homecoming has plenty of pomp and circumstance. This year’s events include a late night breakfast hosted by Chancellor Minor, an in-person awards ceremony, and a special collection of historical research.

One of the many achievements this year was winning the coveted INSIGHT Into Diversity’s Higher Education Excellence in Diversity Award for the ninth year in a row. The award is a national accolade designed to recognize U.S. colleges and universities for their commitment to diversity.

On the academic front, the University’s Educational Leadership program recently selected 10 students to join the ISLPP (Illinois School Leadership Pipeline Program). With the title of “Castle Rocker,” these students have the unique honor of taking on the role of a collegiate administrator.

The school’s most recent event, the fall Digital Humanities Student Showcase, incorporated some digital magic. Five winners were entrusted with the opportunity to demonstrate their innovative work using a variety of digital tools.

Other notable accomplishments this semester include the announcement of the Enterprise Holdings Foundation’s donation of $1.5 million to refurbish the atrium in the Engineering Building. Featuring a custom made tiling system, the atrium is a sight to behold.
