LIVE: White House Holds Press Briefing | NBC News

Streaming is an exciting opportunity for news networks to deliver timely news to viewers anywhere they may be. Unlike broadcast TV, where news coverage is limited by the availability of airtime, streaming is able to deliver information to viewers whenever they want it.

Streaming news is also an economical way for news networks to build their libraries. The major streaming networks have been around for a decade or so. They schedule regular nightly news programs and offer news analysis and documentaries.

The top-rated free news streamer in the United States is NewsBreak, which boasts a curated daily briefing with local weather updates and breaking news. This is in addition to a plethora of news related content from local news outlets, including ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC.

The “smart” news is that many of the major news networks are making investments in streaming. In the long run, this will result in a better news experience for viewers. The networks are betting that viewers will prefer streaming news to the old-fashioned way of watching television.

In the same way, many network newscasters are beginning to see a decline in audiences. For example, the number of cable TV viewers has dropped from 76 percent in 2015 to 56 percent in 2021. This is largely due to consumers’ preference for entertainment rather than news. Streaming news may provide newscasters with a means to counter this trend.

There are also a host of free news streamers that are promoting cable-quality news. For example, Fox is attracting 1.5 million subscribers to its Fox Nation streaming app.
