Trending talks about the latest news and events that are happening around us.

When an event happens that elicits nationwide coverage and requires numerous stations to interrupt their regular programming, it is known as breaking news. The network news feed may be interrupted with a countdown sequence, allowing affiliates to switch to the breaking news report; or the station’s regular commercials may be overlaid with the breaking news graphic and special music cue. Historically, only severe weather emergencies warranted cut-ins or alert crawls in normal broadcasts; however, 24-hour news networks have the ability to interrupt non-news programming with the click of a button.
