The advent of online video streaming is likely to reshape political and news coverage. A handful of overtly political news operations are poised to capitalize on this technology and their coveted licenses.

For years, broadcast TV served as the dominant form of news delivery. In the wake of the digital age, however, viewers have opted to refocus their time and attentions on streaming. This has been good for news outlets.

Streaming is the obvious winner in the news industry. It allows for a more efficient and timely delivery of breaking and current news. Broadcasters have responded by investing hundreds of millions of dollars in streaming operations.

For the first time, viewers can watch news programs anytime, anywhere. In addition, a slew of free news streamers have sprung up. These providers claim to offer cable-quality news. However, many of them lack the finesse of their cable counterparts.

On a technical level, the new streaming technologies enable broadcasters to repurpose programming that previously appeared on cable. Likewise, they can archive content. Streaming makes it possible to customize the experience for each viewer.

For example, the award winning Currents magazine is published by CASE. Additionally, the California Department of Education publishes a news release that provides updates and links to the public.

A more sophisticated approach to online fundraising campaigns is likewise making its presence felt. Several major news networks, including ABC News, CBS News, Fox News, and NBC, have all invested in streaming. Using a mix of news analysis, reruns, and documentaries, they aim to deliver a daily dose of news.
