Streaming news is set to transform the way we watch news. Instead of sitting in front of the TV for hours on end, we will be able to watch news whenever and wherever we want. The result will be a more personalized experience.
Streaming networks will offer documentaries and regular nightly news programming. The major news networks have invested hundreds of millions of dollars in streaming operations, and they have high hopes for the future.
Streaming news has proven to attract mass audiences. It also has the potential to reach niche audiences. If streaming news achieves siloing results like cable, it could also feed political polarization.
Online newspapers are independent news outlets, which usually provide objective news. They also provide a fast news delivery system, and they’re fed by the products of news agencies. Streaming networks are repurposing programming from cable. They’re rerunning documentaries and nightly news programs. They also offer news analysis.
Streaming news also gives networks the ability to archive content and to deliver news at a time of viewer demand. In turn, this reduces the scarcity in the media equation. It makes building news libraries economical.
The news streaming business is new for CBS, but it was a natural for Fox. Fox has already attracted 1.5 million subscribers to its Fox Nation streaming app. They’ve also proven that TV audiences will pay for news content.
NewsBreak will provide live local news, as well as comprehensive news stories, local weather updates, and an innovative discovery engine. Users will be able to express their opinions and follow trending topics. NewsBreak will also support small news publishers.
