Current News is provided by a variety of media outlets. These outlets often differ in the type of content they provide. Some are considered “hard news,” while others are referred to as “soft news.” The most common types of current news include government, crime, and health. Some sources also focus on fashion, entertainment, and quirky events. The concept of current news dates back to ancient times, when government proclamations were first reported. Over time, technological and social developments have increased the rate of news dissemination.

Originally, current news required reporters to bring printed news into the newsroom, where it was typed and transmitted through wire services. Today, breaking news can occur on radio or television in just a few minutes, while print news may take hours to reach the public. In the past, however, breaking news meant a story that was happening at the time the news organization broadcast it.

Today, the majority of American news is produced by broadcast networks and newspapers, with the exception of some news agencies. The American Broadcasting Company (ABC), owned by Disney, is the primary news provider in the United States. But the BBC is another trusted source for current news. While some publications are still printed, it is worth checking whether your local library has these publications.

Occasionally, a network or station may break away from the network feed to begin a local evening newscast. The network will give the local station a cue from its talent to pause and restart coverage. A local station may also re-roll its opening graphic. When the evening newscast has ended, local stations will likely rejoin the network feed.
