A breaking news story is an event that warrants the interruption of regular television or radio programming. Typically, when a breaking story occurs, a network will alert all of its affiliates and tell them to stand by for an announcement. Then, the program will stop and a network feed will begin playing, often with a distinctive music cue.
Then, a news anchor will welcome viewers and introduce the current events that have just taken place. The report may last for only a few minutes, or may continue for hours or even days. Depending on the nature of the story, it may also include analysis through analysts in-studio or via phone, satellite, broadband (B-GAN), or other methods of transmission.
