News networks have seen a burgeoning demand for streaming news. Long-term cultural trends have converged to make it a viable way to deliver news.
Streaming news allows viewers to customize the experience. For instance, networks may offer reruns of their programming, or feature news analysis. They may also offer news reports on topics of special interest to the viewer. They can also offer links to local TV stations, radio stations, or other platforms.
When a breaking news story breaks, the network may cut to a live shot of the anchor. The network talent may then pause for a few seconds to reset the coverage. When coverage is complete, the network may switch to its regular newscast.
In the wake of the September 11, 2001 attacks, many news channels employed a reporter at the site of the breaking news. The reporter shared more information as the story unfolded. These reports can last several minutes, or even hours.
