Streaming news has been around for a while. The major news networks have invested hundreds of millions of dollars into streaming operations. They offer documentaries, reruns, and news analysis. They also schedule regular nightly news programs.
Several newcomers to the streaming game have entered the fray. Free news streamers are trying to entice viewers to cut the cable cord. Their style resembles that of cable.
Unlike conventional television, streaming allows the viewer to select the type of content they want to see. They can watch on demand or archive content for later viewing. Streaming also offers the convenience of viewing on the go.
One of the most impressive features of streaming is its ability to bring news to the masses. The news of the day arrives on a viewer’s timetable. Previously, they were only able to catch the news as it happened.
Streaming news has made video news ubiquitous. Streaming is a boon to journalists who can now report from the field or from the studio. Aside from the obvious benefits of speed and accessibility, streaming enables a news operation to build a library of content in an economical manner.
Among the major streaming networks, Fox has attracted 1.5 million subscribers to its Fox Nation app. It loses about $20 a year in subscription fees.
Another notable feature is its discovery engine. Users can follow trending topics and block others. They can also express their opinions. Lastly, the free news streamers are trying to get a piece of the $3 billion profit that the major streaming networks will make in 2020.
