Air traffic control had to remind two pilots to be professional after hearing them “meow” and “bark” over the radio at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. The FAA said they investigate “all situations where pilots may have violated any regulation.”

When a major breaking story occurs, a network may interrupt regular programming to provide live coverage. This is known as a “newsflash” or “special report”. Prior to the advent of 24-hour news channels, such interruptions were only used for extremely urgent events, such as the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, and even then only on stations with a national reach. When a newsflash or special report is interrupted, a countdown sequence appears on screen to allow affiliated stations to switch over to the network feed. The lower thirds and other graphics are usually changed to convey a sense of urgency.
