The American Academy of Emergency Medicine (AAEM), part of the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), is working to protect access to emergency care by signing on to a joint letter urging Congress to include an emergency care provision in the Health Care Act. AAEM has also issued a letter of support for H.R.6910.
This year, the AAEM will launch a pain and procedural committee and sign on to the EM Residency Guidelines for 2020-2021. In addition, the organization will host a public conference and hold a meeting of the EM Pain and Procedural Committee. These events will help AAEM to inform its membership and the public about its mission.
AAEM recently signed on to the Residency Guidelines for 2020-2021 and announced its 2020 board of directors. AAEM is a member of the American Board of Medical Specialties and is currently being reviewed.
During the fall Digital Humanities Student Showcase, students showcased their innovative use of digital tools to teach and research complex topics. Several students were awarded scholarships for their work.
One student, Morgen Ryan Schroeder, was studying criminal justice. He had a goal of becoming a police officer. But after she saw a documentary about a missing child, she changed her mind.
The AAEM has also released a report titled “The High Cost of Emergency Care”. Its goal is to explain the costs of emergency care to private equity firms and the public.
One of the most memorable years in 2022 was the year of the Queen Elizabeth II’s death. Among other memorable events was a car accident that killed Emily Allen. Another was the death of Loretta Lynn.
