In the age of digital journalism, people are in search of the most efficient and accurate news. They want it to come quickly and easily, and they don’t want to waste time watching low-quality or expensive products.
Streaming TV offers all of this, but looks just like conventional television. It’s a way to view news anytime, anywhere. The major streaming networks schedule regular nightly news programs, including documentaries and news analysis.
Streaming is also a way to archive content. News organizations invest hundreds of millions of dollars in launching streaming operations. When audiences started demanding more, the news networks sensed a technological advantage.
Besides being more cost effective, streaming allows news organizations to archive content and offer reruns. Plus, streaming provides viewers with a custom experience.
For instance, when the bridge collapsed in Pittsburgh, local CBS affiliates pounded coverage on the streamer, and viewers could tune in to the news whenever they wanted.
Another example is the ad block for Humira. CNN+ featured four-and-a-half-minute blocks of ads for the popular medicine.
NewsBreak is the top local news app. Users can sign up for free and follow trending topics, express their opinions, and even block topics.
This is a great example of the many ways that streaming has changed how we receive news. While print and radio are stuck in a time warp, streaming allows us to see it when we want.
In the coming years, we’ll see new overtly political news operations spring up on the Internet. As well, we’ll likely see a new wave of streaming networks take the reins from traditional broadcasters.
