Trending is a special news segment that follows the most-viewed stories on a major TV network’s website. It may include a summary of the latest developments in a breaking story or an interview with an expert in the subject matter. These segments can be overlaid on top of regular programming, but they normally do not interrupt regular commercial advertising or other non-news programs. In the past, such interruptions were reserved for extremely urgent news events, such as the assassination of John F.
