Kennedy in 1963 required the nation’s television and radio stations to interrupt their programs for live coverage of the event. The break may be accompanied by a newsflash graphic and/or a distinctive music cue, or the national network feed will be paused temporarily so that local affiliates can switch to the special news coverage.
