Streaming news is changing the way we receive our daily dose of news. It makes the news more accessible. With streaming, viewers can choose what they want to watch, when they want to watch it. And it isn’t bound by the costs and regulations of TV licensing.

Previously, the news of the day was delivered through TV, radio, and print. When something was important, it was reported on. If the story was not urgent, it would wait until the next day. Then, when the next day arrived, it was still a mystery.

Streaming repurposes the programming already broadcast. This allows the networks to create news analyses, documentaries, and reruns. Moreover, it lets them archive content. This makes building a library of news economical.

Unlike linear television, streaming news is ubiquitous. Viewers can watch it from anywhere. They can also follow trends and express their opinion.

Streaming networks have been around for ten years. They chase breaking news, archive content, and repurpose cable programming. As a result, they’re able to attract a mass audience.

The major networks have invested hundreds of millions of dollars in the new business. While it’s early days, they have high hopes. Currently, more than 85 percent of American households subscribe to at least one streaming service.

Similarly, online video streaming is likely to reshape political coverage. There are a number of well-established, overtly political news operations on the Internet. These include Inside U.S. Trade, a news portal that covers international trade, and POLITICO, a site that covers politics, lobbying, and advocacy.
