The strait’s closure could drive up oil prices, experts say.
A breaking news event is a newsworthy story that requires an interruption of normal non-news programming, especially on network television or radio. Prior to the era of 24-hour news channels, such an interruption was usually reserved for nationally significant events such as a political assassination or severe weather warnings. When an event qualifies as a breaking news story, the broadcaster will often alert its affiliate stations to interrupt their own programming, using a countdown sequence and a special graphic. Breaking news coverage may also be presented through tickers during regularly scheduled programs, lessening the need to use special “Newsflash” or “Special Report”-style interruptions.
