When an event occurs that is so newsworthy that it requires interruption of current non-news programming (or in some cases, regularly scheduled newscasts), broadcasters usually alert affiliate stations to “stand by.” The network feed may then go into a countdown sequence, and when it reaches zero, the station’s own station imaging promo or program reminder will appear.
