Many newspapers feature a headline at the top of their centerfold, highlighting a major story. The purpose is to capture potential readers’ attention and lead them to read the article. The headline is the most important part of the newspaper, and it should be eye-catching. On the other hand, a story that has a lot of web hits can be considered ‘trending.’ The stories that have ‘buzz’ often tend to trend, and have little impact on society.
Some networks use a special report format for breaking news. This format contains an internal alert service, so when a story breaks, a broadcaster notifies all affiliates. At that point, the network feed automatically switches to a reverse countdown, starting at 5 seconds. Local television stations typically do not provide reverse counts. This is another method that is used to avoid missing breaking news. There are many other types of Current News, and each format is beneficial for the network.
