Streaming news is a new way to watch television. It looks like conventional television, but it travels wherever the viewer is.
When a breaking news event occurs, a reporter may join the coverage. If the event is particularly interesting, the reporter may be able to share more details as the event unfolds. A network may pause to allow other network affiliates to join the feed. When coverage ends, the network may continue to show the live shot of the anchor, or resume previously scheduled programming.
News reports can be short, or they can last for several hours. For sustained coverage, regular commercial advertising may be suspended. The network may also integrate analysis into the story, or alter the lower thirds to convey a sense of urgency.
An outro promo may be used to direct viewers to the network’s website or other streaming news channels. This is one of the most common methods of capturing the attention of the streaming audience.

The town crier’s message may not be heard over the sounds of a typical newscast, but he may be able to provide a more thorough report than the local newscast.
