Trending talks about Breaking News
When a major news event occurs that is immediately urgent, or which would require a significant interruption of regular non-news programming (or even, in the case of network broadcasters, their regularly scheduled newscasts), television stations will usually interrupt programming with a special “breaking news” report. During this period, station identification will be overlaid on the top of the screen and distinctive music cues may be used to signal the break. This type of breaking news is also known as a Newsflash or Special Report. It is often accompanied by lower third graphics that have been changed to convey urgency.
