Six people were injured after a stabbing attack at a high school in Tacoma, Washington. Authorities say four people are in serious condition, and no motive has been confirmed.

When an event occurs that warrants breaking news coverage, a network may interrupt its regular programming (or in the case of radio, current non-news programming) to broadcast a special report. The story is usually presented by a journalist, and in some cases may be accompanied by video footage. Depending on the severity of the incident, lower thirds may be altered to convey the urgency of the situation, and station imaging promos may be suspended for sustained coverage.
