You can access current news from major broadcast networks and specialized magazines as well as read the latest headlines on major news sites. Local television stations may be allowed to break away from the network feed and begin their own evening newscast. Alternatively, local stations may join in on an “extended edition” of the network newscast. This practice is called “episodic television.”

For example, the April 2017 Shayrat missile strike interrupted ABC’s Scandal episode. It can also disrupt new and highly-rated programs, such as The Bachelor.
