Streaming news is the kind of television that arrives on demand, when you need it. It reduces the scarcity of media content and allows viewers to customize their experience. Streaming news has proven to be an effective way to attract mass audiences and niche audiences.
In fact, most Americans subscribe to at least one streaming service. The streaming news phenomenon is the culmination of long-gestating cultural trends that have converged to the advantage of streaming. The advent of streaming news has prompted news networks to enter into the news streaming business.
Unlike traditional television news, which has been broadcast for decades, streaming news has only been around for ten years. The networks repurpose programming from broadcast television and use the content to offer news analysis, documentaries, and nightly news programs.
The breaking news format is often described as a special report, which is usually accompanied by an internal alert service. The news report can last a few minutes or hours. The anchor or reporter at the location of the breaking news may share additional information as the story breaks.
During prime time, the breaking news can interrupt the overnight news program. The network may resume the previously-aired programming when coverage has ended. Depending on the length of the coverage, the network may allow local stations to join the feed.
Often, the breaking news theme is accompanied by music. This is to emphasize the urgency of the news. A disclaimer at the end of the news report will inform viewers that more information is available on the local news.
