During breaking news events, a network interrupts regular non-news programming with a special report (also known as a “Newsflash” or a “Special Report”). The newscast usually ends with a countdown sequence for affiliate stations to switch over to the network feed. A typical Breaking News report lasts a few minutes, but long-form analysis on the subject may continue for hours or even days.
