The current news isn’t all that rosy. Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) has been awarded the prestigious INSIGHT Into Diversity’s Higher Education Excellence in Diversity Award for the ninth year in a row. This is only the latest in a long line of awards and honors that the institution has received for its stellar diversity efforts.
On December 23rd, the university will begin a brief winter break before returning to campus on January 3rd, 2022. During this time, SIUE will host several events including an official opening ceremony, a community event, and a virtual event. In the spirit of the season, the campus community is wishing students a safe and exciting semester.
Aside from the usual suspects, the School of Engineering joined with the Enterprise Holdings Foundation to participate in a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the donation of a $1.5 million grant. Additionally, the school’s Educational Leadership program selected ten students for an ISLPP, or the Illinois School Leadership Pipeline Program.
Another noteworthy achievement was receiving the Douglas and Betty Noverr Collection of Walt Whitman’s journalism. To mark the occasion, the SIUE community will get a chance to view the collection in person. Currently, the collection is housed in the East St. Louis Learning Resource Center, which has a diaper giveaway in store for visitors.
The digital humanities (H.A.T.) department’s Digital Humanities Student Showcase last fall was a success. More than 300 students took part in the competition, resulting in a few winning entries. Those that caught the eye of the judges included a student whose innovative work utilized digital tools and technology.
