Current News is a news report about a topic currently being discussed or a story that has just happened. It may be an event that has a national significance, such as the assassination of John F. If a breaking news event interrupts regular programming on a national network, the broadcaster will usually ask its affiliates to stand by and will usually pause its own program for a few seconds before beginning the break with a distinctive graphic, music cue, and countdown sequence. Alternatively, some stations have started to use special tickers during non-news programming for breaking stories, which can replace the need for cut-ins or lower thirds.
