Current News is the latest breaking news about news, politics, sports, and more.
In media such as television and radio, a breaking news story or special report is a current event that warrants interruption of non-news programming in order to relay the details of an important or highly publicized issue. The term ‘breaking news’ is most commonly used for stories that are considered to be particularly urgent, such as news about the death of an important political figure or a natural disaster that requires immediate attention.

Coverage of breaking news often occurs on broadcast television, but also can be found on radio, especially in the early fringe timeslots of local stations. If a network newscast is in progress when the event occurs, it will pause for a short time to allow other network affiliates to join the feed, and then an opening graphic will be rolled (typically featuring music from the same theme as the network’s normal newscast), with a brief description of the event.

When the story has ended, the opening graphic may be re-rolled to announce that the network is now resuming regular programming. For local stations, coverage can continue by announcing that a reporter is currently at the scene, or may continue by using an on-air bulletin to give additional information and details about the event.

Breaking news stories can last a few minutes or can continue for several hours and sometimes days at a time, depending on the nature of the story. As a result, regular commercial advertising is often suspended, and other programming may be rescheduled or pre-empted entirely if the story is significant enough to merit interruption.
