Moderator Bill Monroe asked Carter if he supported sending a U.S. Olympic team to the summer games in Moscow. Carter replied, “No. Neither I nor the American people would support the sending of an American team to Moscow with Soviet invasion troops in Afghanistan.”

The Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) is continuing its Homecoming festivities this week, welcoming alumni and friends to campus. The university recently received the INSIGHT Into Diversity Higher Education Excellence in Diversity Award for the ninth consecutive year. This award recognizes excellence in diversity across U.S. colleges and universities. The SIUE campus is celebrating Native Heritage Month with a ceremony that will be held in the International Room at the Morris University Center. Associate professor of history Derek A. Houston said the ceremonies will serve as an effective way to connect with elected officials and the community.
