Trending is a feature of Current News that highlights the stories that are most popular among viewers. If a story is trending, it will appear in the right-hand corner of the screen, with a number that indicates its popularity. Alternatively, the top 10 Trending stories may also appear in the middle of the screen as well. This is a common practice for breaking news events that are of major importance, such as the assassination of U.S. President John F. Kennedy, which required most stations to interrupt their regular programming. Breaking news often elicits a special ticker that replaces station imaging promos and lower thirds, and is typically accompanied by an audio cue and distinctive music.
