Breaking news is a type of television or radio news coverage that is current and time-sensitive, such as immediate weather events. If an event occurs that warrants breaking news, a broadcaster interrupts regular programming to deliver the report, and may also use a newsflash or special report graphic with a distinctive music cue. Prior to the rise of 24-hour news networks, the term “newsflash” or “special report” was used when a story occurred that commanded nationwide attention and required an urgent interruption of regularly scheduled programming. When a breaking news story is followed for an extended period of time, the network feed will usually remain on the air, with a countdown sequence at the top of the hour to allow affiliate stations to join the live feed.
Teachers at an Arizona high school are facing possible felony charges after a teacher and an aide were accused of having inappropriate relationships with the same student. The two were allegedly sexting, having a physical relationship and engaging in other inappropriate activities.
