Article about Trending
In television and radio news reporting, breaking news is a short report on a rapidly developing story that requires urgent coverage. A network will typically interrupt non-news programming, or a regularly scheduled newscast, and send out a special feed to all of its affiliate stations, asking them to “stand by.” This is often accompanied by a countdown sequence and an opening graphic that has a distinctive music cue and a distinctive lower third to convey urgency. Historically, this was known as a newsflash or special report, and is still commonly used in 24-hour cable news channels with an anchor available for live interruptions.
