While television and radio have long been profitable businesses, many people still enjoy watching the Current News on cable. For instance, cable broadcasters like Fox and MSNBC are on track to make $3 billion in profit by 2020. Free news streaming services, however, are hoping to share in this profit by mimicking cable’s approach and style. In other words, they’re telling viewers that they can cancel their cable subscription but are still promoting cable-quality news.
While TV and radio have long been the traditional medium for news, new technology is making current news a more flexible experience for consumers. The rise of streaming services and the resulting increased popularity of these media have paved the way for a new era in news. Current news is available at your fingertips, and a new generation of viewers has emerged to meet their media needs. For example, NPR has expanded its programming beyond national news to cover business news, science and technology news, and breaking stories.
Today, cable and radio have both surpassed their predecessors in terms of content and quality. Moreover, many major news organizations have incorporated the latest technological advances to remain competitive. Today, there are more than 32,000 news outlets in the United States. And with more than 10,000 news reporters, CNN has more than any other U.S. television news operation. In fact, CBS tried to buy CNN, but was unsuccessful. It’s now the nation’s most popular news provider.
