Trending

A trend is a phenomenon that is currently popular. These trends can affect the everyday lives of people or a nation and are usually reported in media. They can range from sports to politics and even popular culture. The Trending page is a place where we feature some of these stories.

Breaking News

In television and radio, breaking news is an announcement of events that occur immediately, often requiring the interruption of regular programming to provide live coverage. This practice was common before 24-hour news networks existed, and was typically reserved for severe or urgent weather events or major world events such as the assassination of John F. Kennedy, for which the entire country was clamoring for information that would compel multiple stations to interrupt their programming.

When a network breaks news, their regular programming is interrupted with a graphic and distinctive music cue that alerts viewers to the event. Occasionally, the network will also pause their national feed to allow their affiliates to join in and continue coverage. Depending on the story, the breaking news can last for minutes to hours or even days.
