President Trump was welcomed by Chinese President Xi Jinping with a handshake outside the Great Hall of the People to kick off their high-stakes summit in Beijing.
The two leaders participated in a welcome ceremony, which included the playing of the U.S. national anthem by a Chinese military band and an inspection of the troops.

This is especially common for events that are a national concern that require nationwide coverage and multiple stations to be involved in the coverage. When this happens, a special ticker is usually displayed to alert viewers that news will be coming in a short amount of time. Prior to 24-hour news networks, this was done through cut-ins on regular programming and newscasts.
