From rising gas prices to falling markets, the war with Iran has hit the global economy hard. New economic risks are growing as some financial experts warn the disruption from the war could last years and that the markets may be underestimating the impact of the war. A breaking news event is a topic or story that warrants the interruption of existing non-news programming, or in the case of network broadcasters, a newscast. If a network newscast is in progress at the time of an event that requires immediate coverage, the network will alert its affiliates to stand by while it pauses its regular feed and begins a countdown sequence; this allows other stations to interrupt their own programming to pick up the network feed. Often, the event will be followed by an extended live special report. Prior to the advent of 24-hour news channels, such breaks were reserved for events that required immediate nationwide coverage, such as the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in 1963.
