Trending talks about Breaking News

When an urgent event occurs that elicits nationwide coverage and requires stations to interrupt regular programming, television and radio networks may interrupt their normal non-news programs and broadcast an emergency news flash or special report. The interruption is typically followed by a countdown sequence to give network affiliates time to switch to the national feed for the breaking story. A newsflash or special report can also be used during regularly scheduled programing; in such cases, lower thirds and other graphics are often altered to convey a sense of urgency. Other terms used for breaking news include news alert, bulletin and special report.
